At Helvete Med Himlen

By Michael Feldman

Rarely does a song captivate me to the point where I listen to it repeatedly for weeks. However, Parken's "At Helvete Med Himlen," which basically translates into “At Hell With the Sky,” is one of the most immaculate pop songs written in some time…and I am totally addicted. It’s as if Musical Youth’s “Pass the Dutchee” and Pink Floyd’s “Learning to Fly” made love and produced an offspring in the shape of an angelic prayer. Produced by the Swedish Timbaland, a.k.a. Rigas, this electro-dub nu-classic is tethered with sweeping string arrangements and a deep synth-bass groove. The lyrics are in Swedish, Parken’s native language, but that doesn’t matter when the vocal melody is this beautiful and this captivating. (Flora and Fauna)
